How to Apply C Channel Table Supports to Your Bench Top

    -

For any woodworker seeking to improve the durability of their workbench surface, incorporating C Channels can be highly effective. These small components provide supplementary support to your wooden tables, ensuring they remain level, robust, and durable for many years.

A C Channel not only aids in preventing deformation and sagging but also enhances a clean, professional appearance. However, few people are familiar with the proper procedure for installing a C Channel on their workbench.

If this category accurately describes you, then you are indeed in the appropriate position. You need to have the appropriate tools and materials prepared before beginning the installation process. You need a C Channel, marking and measuring tools, a straight edge or guide rail, router bits, drill bits, inserts, and fasteners, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.

With your instruments and materials prepared, it is now time to ready your C Channel. You can consistently select a C Channel from the available pre-cut assortment at most authorized dealers. If it does not fit, employ a metal saw or angle grinder to cut it to the required dimension. Once the material is cut to size, gently sand the margins to eliminate any sharp corners, ensuring safe handling.

On your project, you now need to mark the C Channel’s intended position. To ensure that your lines are straight and accurate, you need a square. To keep track of your markings, designate the C Channels with numbers if you are cutting them to the desired length.

If employing a router track setup, utilize it to direct your route. A straight edge and a few C lanterns will also do the trick. Subsequently, establish stop blocks to assist in determining the appropriate points to initiate and conclude routing. Throughout the process, this step ensures consistent cuts.

To extend the durability of your router bit, it is advisable to make several shallow passes rather than attempting to cut everything in a single attempt. If a flush finish is desired, rout out the center to accommodate the thickness of the C Channel. Ensure that the C Channel is aligned flush with or marginally below the planar surface of the project.

Remember to c lean up debris as you go. In addition to making it simpler to see your work, keeping your workspace tidy also contributes to maintaining a safe environment. Mark the locations for the inserts and fasteners after routing the c channel.
