Jackson Browne Mourns Son Ethan in Heartbreaking Tribute

    -

Legendary singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has confirmed the tragic death of his son, Ethan Zane Browne, at age 44, releasing a deeply personal statement that has left the music community reeling.

In a post shared across his official channels late Thursday, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer wrote: “It is with shattered hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Ethan. He was a brilliant light—kind, funny, and fiercely talented. Ethan lived with a rare intensity and touched everyone who knew him. We are devastated beyond words and ask for privacy as we grieve.”

Ethan, a model, actor, and firefighter, had battled addiction in his younger years but emerged as an advocate for recovery and mental health awareness. He appeared alongside his father in the 2015 documentary “The Art of Recovery” and frequently joined Browne on stage, most recently during the 2024 “Running on Empty” anniversary tour where the two shared an emotional duet of “Stay.”

Tributes poured in immediately from peers and fans alike. Bruce Springsteen called Ethan “one of the gentlest souls I ever met,” while Don Henley described him as “the heart of Jackson’s world.” Eagles manager Irving Azoff, a longtime family friend, added, “Ethan fought hard and loved harder. This one hurts deep.”

No cause of death has been disclosed, and the family has requested that donations be made to MusiCares and the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Ethan’s memory.

Jackson Browne, 77, has canceled all remaining 2025 tour dates. A private memorial is planned for close family and friends in the coming weeks.
